The World Of Music in the Planet of M

This post is way different from all my previous posts. I've been very serious in all my other posts and thought that this one should definitely be on a lighter note.

Let me quote Albus Dumbeldore - "Ah, music. A magic beyond all we do here!" (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone). It is magic, truly. What I want to share, is the list of my all time favorite songs and the reasons for them being my favorites. Here goes...

At No 10, is Kya Mujhe Pyaar Hai (Movie: Woh Lamhe, Singer: Kay Kay). This song would have topped my all time favorite list or probably stood in the top three (if not at 1), had the composer Pritam composed this all on his own. Though this song is a direct rip-off of the song Tak Bisakh by Peter Pan, the lyrics of the Hindi version is simply captivating. "..tum kyon chale aate ho, har roz in khwabon mein, chupke se aa bhi jao, ik din meri baahon mein..." Hats off to the lyricist.

At No 9 is Neele Neele Ambar Par (Movie:Kalaakar, Singer: Kishore Kumar). Absolutely mind-blowing guitar-play by whoever it was. This is one song that is close to my heart, again because of the lyrics which is mesmerizing. Listen to each word carefully and I am 100 % sure, every single one of us has the desire, to fall in love and in the same manner he describes in the song.

At No 8 there is a tie between Ina Mina Dika (Movie: Asha, Singer: Kishore Kumar) and Chala Jaata Hoon(Movie: Mere Jeevan Sathi. Singer: Kishore). Reason, these are two songs for all seasons. Just a perfect dose of music when you need to be cheered up.

Yeh Shaam Mastani (Movie: Kati Patang, Singer: Kishore Kumar) is placed 7th in my all time list. This is one song which I love to croon standing on the terrace of my apartment at 6pm in the evening watching a flock of parrots returning to their nests and with the breeze caressing my face.

At No 6 is Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jaye (Movie: Anand, Singer: Mukesh). Salil Choudhary at his best, I must say. Pure melody combined with heart rendering lyrics.
"...Dil jaane, mere saare, bhed ye gahare
Ho gae kaise mere, sapane sunahare
Yeh mere sapane, yahii to hain apane
mujhase judaa na honge inake ye saaye, inake ye saaye..."
Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.
The context or the picturisation of the song - even better.

At No 5 is Jadoo Teri Nazar (Movie: Darr, Singer: Udit Narayan). Shiv Hari weave pure magic as the song portrays a psychopath lover who would go to any extent to get his sweetheart. My favorite coz of the way Udit sings it. (And the lyrics). Another reason is that everytime I sing this song, I try to put myself in the shoes of the psychopath lover and I swear by everything that is holy - the feeling is very different, kinda scary as well.

At No 4 is Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas Tum Rehti Ho (Movie: Blackmail, Singer: Kishore). If I would ever propose to a girl, this is the song I would be singing when I'm on my knees. There is nothing else that I can say about this song.

Yeh Raatein Yeh Mausam Nadi Ka Kinara (Movie: Dilli Ka Thug, Singer: Kishore, Asha) is at the 3rd spot. I consider this to be the most romantic song in the history of Bollywood. The lyrics of this song are extremely sensual and weave pure magic and leave you mesmerized. I get transported to another world, where I picturize myself on a river bank, with a forest at the other end and a light moonlight that is the only source of light which reflects off the surface of the still water. Boy, i'm already there!

At No 2 on my list is Tum Pukar Lo from the movie Khamoshi sung by Hemant Kumar. Please listen to this song and you'll know why I like this. I do not have words to describe this song.

Before I finish this countdown with my ALL TIME FAVORITE SONG, here are a few songs that are close to my heart but do not feature in this list - Suhana Safar from Madhumati, Tera Muskurana from Jhankaar Beats, Dil Tadap tadap ke from Madhumati, Words by Boyzone, Love me for a Reason by Boyzone, Du Hast by Rammstein, Engel by Rammstein and Show me the meaning of feeling lonely by Backstreet Boys.

There is one song (without lyrics) that would require a special mention here and that is the Flute Song by Remo. The no of times I've danced to this tune in college are countless. Tapanguchi rocks!

The two songs that I are very meaningful yet saddening are Tanha Dil by Shaan and Koi Lauta De Mere Beete Hue Din sung by Kishore. These songs have a depressing effect on me though they are extremely melodious and meaningful. They remind me of my college days and the wonderful days I had with the closest of my buddies which brings a lump in my throat.

Now to the NUMERO UNO song - Yeh Raat Yeh Chandni Phir Kahan, Sunja Dil Ki Daastan (Movie: Jaal, Singer: Hemant Kumar). Let me quote Wikipedia here - "Till date, the sweetness of the melodious "Yeh raat yeh chandni phir kahan, sun ja dil ki dastaan", sung by the heavenly voices Hemant Kumar has not been equalled by any song of this type, composed by any music composure". I have nothing more to add.

Those were/are my favorite songs. What are your favorites?

Time: Sometime last week
Topic: Me listening to one of my all time favorite songs..
"Tujhse naraaz nahi zindagi hairaan hoon mein.."

As Anup Goshal sang
"Zindagi tere gham ne hame rishte naye samjhaye..Mile jo hame dhoop me mile chaav ke thande saaye" with goosebumps all over me thought
"what abt a list of my favorite songs as next topic for my blog".

The next thought that came to my mind is that it will not be appreciated by the audiences and maybe a little too convoluted cos all of them dont appreciate the intricacies that I and u may do.

Also the number of my fav songs is closer to 100 than 10.

So I give u all credit for following ur heart..
The blog was a good one..I dont necessarily agree with all the songs(u seem to be from the KL Saigal era)..Me more of an RD and Madan Mohan fan than Hemant da..

But its ur blog and its ur choice..
Naaaice..[:)]
And yes I may pen my thoughts shortly on the same topic..[:)]

P.S:Proposing a girl with Pal Pal dil ke paas..Come on thatha..
She wil say "more piya hain langoor aur unhone kiya hain telifuun.." [:D]

terrific terrific tracks all.... I would love to comment on each of your favorites like "Pal Pal" for ages to go by....

Each of these songs... the old one's specially are gems.... surprised to see no Mukesh..... in the list and some of my favorites adding to this...

Sajan re jhooth math bolo -- Mukesh
Jaane kahan gaaye woh din ....
Chookar mere maan ko.... This is my all timer... :)

Good read for early morning but if you could attach a zip file of all these songs ... its would be awesome I want to listen to them...

Superb bhargav...one of the best blogs by you...Pal Pal dil ke paas...that is the best song i have heard till date...just reading your blog took me through the various scenes and picturisations of those melodious songs....
But you should have included songs like...
Tum Bin Jaaoon Kahan...
Tere bina zindagi mein koi shikwa to nahi.....
And what about Purani Jeans by ali haider?? i agree its not int he same league but neverthless it is nostalgic...
But anyways superb selection of songs...(applause,applause,applause)

maga seriously a good blog, but i would have preferred neele neele to be a bit higher on the list. Anyways thats left to personal choices. And I must say, the blog is pretty misleading and pretty serious, unlike the person u are. It does bring out the non jovial side of u........

awesome collection macha..! i second shariq , u should ve included "Tere bina zindagi mein koi shikwa to nahi" in that list..melody at its best..
in the new age collection i like all songs in "Tere Bin" and off late i ve been humming "Sweet Escape" a lot.!
neat idea moi going to borrow it! :)

Wow!!

Can't believe it that you are the same guy whose last post was about money and marriage (Money matters) and now u have written about lyrics of songs about love!!!!! About proposing!!!!

Anyways, I agree with the bottom 7 songs in the list, but the top 3 I would have different songs :)

But its ur blog so ur view rulz :)

Nice post, at least it gives ppl something to think about when they r jobless :P

"I've been very serious in all my other posts and thought that this one should definitely be on a lighter note."
This statement at the beginning ofyour blog is specious. Seems very light but man I guess your brain must have a battlefield to put those tracks in sequence!! Brave heart to do that!!
And Acharya talking about proposing!! I wanna see that happen... :D

Bhargav said...

@Sac: "...will not be appreciated by the audiences and maybe a little too convoluted...". Dude, firstly, the posts that you upload are not meant to please anyone or to annoy anyone. You write them for your satisfaction. So, I dont understand as to why u r too concerned about the audience.

Secondly "...I dont necessarily agree with all the songs..". As I said, those were my favorites.. :)

@Svk312 aka Sudhi: At no 6 is Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jaye which was sung by Mukesh. So, there you go... there is a Mukesh song but there are no Rafi songs. Actually, there are a lot of good Rafi Songs but no ne of them feature in my top 10. And if you want these songs, I can definitely burn them (and many more) on CDs. I have all of them.

@Shariq: "...But you should have included songs like...
Tum Bin Jaaoon Kahan...
Tere bina zindagi mein koi shikwa to nahi....." Dude, again, these songs just missed out. I could've accomodated only 10 songs in this post. The songs that you mentioned were in my "just-missed" the top 10 list. And, I haven't heard Purani Jeans...Or rather, I haven't heard it more than twice...So, dont remember teh tune/lyrics..

@Karthik: Yeah, on hindsight, Neele Neele Ambar Par could've moved up the ranks up a couple of slots probably replacing Jadoo Teri Nazar ,but not Yeh Shaam Mastani and Kahin Door... I rate those higher.. And also, "...this blog is misleading"... Err..It is not the blog that is misleading, it is the post that is misleading.. :)

@Ann: I agree that "Tere bina zindagi..." is one of the most melodious songs to have come out of Bollywood, but I repeat, these songs are MY favorites.. :) :)

@Abhishek: Aa thank you thank you... Most people are of the same opinion that the last 3 should've been different, but to me, these are the best I've ever heard and I feel that nothing comes close to them.

@Shailesh: As a matter of fact, choosing the top 10 was easy. Hardly took any time. But arranging them in that order was a tough job. Only the top 3 songs were kinda fixed.. And talking about me proposing, yeah, even I want to be there when that happens.. :)

Good choice of songs dude..Liked each one of them..NO wonder we were in the same antakshari team :-)..there could have been a longer list than 10..but again its too difficult atleast for me to put them in an order..

Anonymous said...

Cartman, would you rather not have the Black Eyed Peas, and other four-lettered bands on the list? If not, you better give up this name, man

Abhishek said...

Thats very bad..
I cant beleive MUNGAARU MALE is not in the list! :) :(

Abhishek said...

atleast for the fact that the music director of Mungaaru male is my colleague @ Cisco ! :) :D :D

Harikrishnan said...

Dude..I dont knw who wrote this second anonymous comment but he/she/it is absolutely true about the cartman part.. definitely not the black eyed peas part..

Harikrishnan said...

Good one maga!
After reading ur blog I was listening to golden oldies all day today (that is, when I was at the desk ;-)
It's while listening to those songs I wondered whether I would ever be able to pick my set of favorite songs (esp if it's just ten); it's so mood/'vicissitudes of life' dependent!

And about that proposing to a girl part, I rather be there when Kartz proposes...'Pal Pal kiske Pas...' lol

Anonymous said...

worst one!
Who gave you this junk idea

Anonymous said...

tell his name
I will take care of him

Bhargav said...

@Anonymous1 aka nachi: Thanks dude...and yeah, no wonder we were in the antakshari team that ruled..

@Anonymous2: Changing the title of my post..I think Eric Cartman deserves better posts than these..

@Abhishek: It is nice to know that your colleague composed the music for Mungaru Male but this post contains MY favorite songs...And MY favorite songs need not necessarily mean Good Songs... :) :)

@Hari Comment No 1: Yeah..Me changing the title of my blog..
@Hari Comment No 2: These are me favorite songs..They have nothing to do with kunta..

@Jobin: There isn't anything called a redundant blog..So, you can start blogging.. :)

@Sibin: Good one about the karthik part... I can imagine Karthik proposing to a girl.. Yello dialogue hodiyo madhyadalli, "mosa madbitte" anta insert maadi haikotane...

Bhargav said...

@the other anonymous: Super...His name is Kunta..He can be found near Kamakya theater...Please call me on my mobile..I will give you further directions.. btw, may I know who you are..

kd said...

Finally:

Finally bhargav's got a true winner post on his blog.

Well the behavior of the guy who would have these songs as favorites and yours .. bring only one analogy to mind...
A Magnet: getting two repelling poles together into be one.

as Abhishek mentioned it.. difficult to digest the contrast in posts from Money hungry (Ready to be GAY) dude to a soft person believing in true love (atleast thats what the list gives u an idea about)....

and the matters become worst since i know what the next posts gonna be...
i mean ppl gonna go mad over contrast next ones gonna show.

@Deepak: I honestly dont know whether that was a complement or a remark but I sense something coming.. :)

@Anonymous: There you go..Eric Cartman goes away... Now replaced...
